Project Reveal: Jordyn's Bedroom

I've been slowly putting the finishing touches on my stepdaughter Jordyn's bedroom for quite some time now and have been sharing bits and pieces of it with you along the way. You might remember the bookcase I painted, the nailhead inspiration board I made, the desk makeover, the DIY headboard, etc. Anyhow, I finally got around to tackling her dresser (another brown wooden beast that got a coat of glossy white paint) which completed my list of things to do in her bedroom. Jordyn will be turning 11 in about a month and I'm ecstatic to finally be done with her bedroom. I think it turned out to be a fun and girly space without being too juvenile or too sophisticated.

Just for kicks, here are some pictures of what the room used to look like;

Two years later, a whole lotta white paint, some fun fabric and a couple DIY projects later, this is what the room looks like now;

So what do you think? I love the way everything turned out and am happy with the cheery, colorful space! I think it's perfect for the outgoing 11 year old and she seems to be pretty pleased with her new room. Another happy client! ;)

Room of the day

I absolutely adore this feminine inspired living room designed by Ana Antunes. The soft pastels make this space feel girly while the bold patterns add a sense of  whimsy. Lavender, gray, turquoise, yellow. . . all of my favorite colors are combined in this living room so effortlessly. This space feels sophisticated and fun and I could definitely move right in!

Wine & Roses

A few weeks ago I announced that I am going to be featuring more local wedding and party related stuff here on the blog. In an effort to keep this series of posts going, today I thought I would put the a spot light on a place that is literally right in my backyard (Ok, it's more like a mile away but nonetheless it's super close to where I live.) Wine & Roses is a hotel, restaurant and spa located in Lodi, California.

With 87 guest rooms and suites, restaurant, full-service resort spa, pool, fitness center, and indoor/outdoor event venues that accommodate anywhere between 10-350 people, Wine & Roses has long been one of the most popular wedding venues in the area. They host over 700 events each year including weddings, intimate social gatherings, corporate meetings, board retreats, training seminars, reunions, memorials, family celebrations, holiday parties, rehearsal dinners, bridal showers, and much, much more.

The property is nestled just outside of town and is the perfect place for an indoor or outdoor wedding, all year round. (Although if you are interested in their venue, my recommendation would be to book as soon as possible!) They have several different areas for hosting events such as the Garden Ballroom, Wedding Garden, Pavilion and Cellar Room & Patio. Take a peak at a few gorgeous weddings they have hosted;

Fabric: Schumacher Zenyatta Mondotta

Recently I completed a design board for an online client of mine. (You can see it here if you missed it!) I suggested a lumbar pillow made out of a fabric that I am completely in love with - Schumacher Zenyatta Mondotta in Peacock. It's such a fun fabric with it's bright colors and zig zag (chevron) pattern.

It's like I serious have to smile every time I look at this fabric! Does it have that same effect on you?!

Like most designer fabrics, Zenyatta Mondotta is pretty pricey. A great way to incorporate it into a room (without totally breaking the bank) is with pillows! Here's a couple available on Etsy;

I wouldn't mind two of these babies on my living room sofa. . . Just what I need, another chevron pillow. . . I think I have like five different throw pillows made out of various different zig zag patterned fabric in my house I think it's an obsession ;)

A peak at a project I've been working on. . .

I've been working with a new online client to help make her long and narrow living room work better for her and her family. She lives in New York and her style is a mix of vintage and modern. Her home has great architectural details, crown moldings, etc., it just needs a few changes to make it feel a little more fresh and modern. I just sent over her design package yesterday and thought I would share a snippet of it with you;

I suggested that she paint the existing brick fireplace a creamy white color and hang floor to ceiling white drapes (my favorite Ikea Merete grommet panels.) For the walls I selected BM Northern Cliffs and I also suggested she paint the ceiling a fun turquoise color (BM Waterfall.) Punchy pillows and a fun Moroccan pouf add color to the space while the upholstered tufted ottoman provides storage and function. We are also using a couple of her existing pieces (like a tv cabinet, side chair, end table, etc.) I think the room design turned out great and I can't wait for her to send over some pictures after she pulls it all together!

If you are interested in JPM Design's online design services, contact me. I can put together a custom package for you that includes a design board, floor plan of the space as well as a source list with specific details and notes on how to pull everything together. It really is design made simple and affordable!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Ah, the color green. . . Today you will see it on everything from clothing to cupcakes to beer! The psychology of color tells us that green symbolizes growth, nature and money. It is also the color most associated with envy, good luck, generosity and fertility. It is the traditional color of peace and harmony and is found to be a very calming hue. Whatever your favorite shade of green is (forest green, kelly green, lime green, etc.) here is some inspiration for you to feast your eyes;
